About Ridgewood Miniature Horses

Ridgewood Miniature Horses is a small family owned stud farm, run by Margaret and Wayne and their adult daughter, Melinda.

We have been owners and breeders of miniature horses since about 2001, although horses have been part of our lives for a long time.  We have all been involved with riding, Pony Club and large horses for quite some time.

We also breed Dorper sheep, Indian Ringneck Parrots and other birds.  The farm is also home to dogs, goats, chickens, and fish.

There were a number of factors which contributed to the decision to breed Miniature Horses.

It was Margaret who made the suggestion to breed Miniature Horses.  Melinda had always had a dream of breeding horses, although she had never thought of Miniature Horses, so she as supportive of the idea.  We decided to look for a mare to breed from, and after doing some research into the breed we came across an appaloosa mare, Bluff View Talika (Lilly) with a foal at foot, Westfork Ebony Illusion (Buffy).  In the process of our search we also found Bluegables Abbys Diamond Lil.  Our addiction to these little horses began, and we discovered very quickly that our plans to have one mare and one foal each year were not going to be reality!

Margaret is currently a North Shore City Councillor.  She is a qualified Physiotherapist.

She shows, trains and does a lot of the background work with the horses.  She has completed a course in Horse Massage Therapy.  Margaret has previously ridden and owned large horses.

Wayne is Psychiatrist.

He also does a lot of the background work with the horses.  He offers a great deal of support and assistance with the horses and their preparation for show day.

Wayne previously owned and rode large horses.  He had extensive involvement with the Paremoremo Pony Club, of which he was the Club President for a number of years.

Melinda is a Probation Officer.

She shows the horses and also assists with training and background work when she can!

Melinda has had extensive riding experience and currently owns a 15.3 hh Appaloosa, (Kools Quest); a TB mare (Stella) and her foal by Sundays Sensation (Grace); a Appaloosa/TB gelding (Tigger - SI Out Past Midnight); and a TB gelding who is currently for sale (Jay)
